In addition to the US Census conducted every ten years, a
Census of Massachusetts was taken in 1855 and in 1865. A
microfilm copy is available at the library of the Pocumtuck
Valley Memorial Association in Deerfield, Massachusetts.
As of 2012, the 1865 Massachusetts Census is online at FamilySearch.org.
The following files include resident of the Town of Shelburne, Franklin County in 1865. The tab-delimited files can be viewed with a Web browser. The comma-separated files can be used with a spreadsheet program such as Microsoft Excel.

The population of Shelburne in 1865 was 1564, including 754 white males, 809 white females, and 1 mulatto male. The 1564 persons were in 361 families in 257 dwellings.
Principal surnames among the 1564 individuals were BARDWELL (69), FISK (56), SMITH (34), DOLE (32), PECK and STREETER (28 each), LONG (27), BARNARD (24), WELLS (22), ANDERSON and SEVERANCE (21 each), FOSTER (20), ALLEN (19), MERRILL (17), ALVORD and WHITNEY (16 each), amd PRATT (15).
